We tweeted about this a few weeks ago but we thought it would be good for us to shed a little bit more light on our participation in this year’s Sussex Internship Programme. In case you’ve never heard of it before, the Sussex Internship Programme is a scheme run by the folks at Wired Sussex and the University of Sussex, which facilitates over 100 grant-supported graduate internships at an array of Sussex’s companies that have a part to play in the county’s fledgling digital, creative and media industries.
The interns get a 30-day work placement and some invaluable on-the-job skills training and a chance to make some good contacts in their chosen industry. What we get is some fresh input to our growing digital team and an additional source for ideas and participation.
Our internship is for a Digital Account Assistant. What this means is that the intern will be working in O&G’s digital department, helping us out with the day-to-day running of current projects, generating ideas and concepts for some current and prospective projects and also helping us out with our self-marketing as a company.
We’re really excited to see how having this added level of support and knowledge will affect the digital team as a whole and we’re confident that what both parties (i.e. the intern and O&G) can get out of the experience will be beneficial to all. This is the first time we’ve taken part in the programme and if it goes well (which we think it will), we’ll definitely look into taking part again in future.
Our internship ad can be found here (http://www.sussexinternships.co.uk/Internships/Internship.aspx?jobid=6812&p=2) and if you’re interested you can apply online through the same site.
P.S. In case you missed the news story, a few of us ran in the 2009 Brighton Santa Dash raising money for homeless charity Crisis. Our designer Martin deserves a particularly large pat on the back for coming third in the dash overall, with a time of 20 minutes, 32 seconds.
P.P.S. Congrats to Gareth from Page Security and Andrew from Solo’s Holidays for winning our Christmas “Say What You See” competition on Twitter last week.
